The International Association of Classification Societies has adopted a unified interpretation of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Performance Standards for Water Level detectors on Bulk and single hold General Cargo Carriers (enforced from 2007 onwards), ensuring that the system fully complies with regulations.
In accordance with the regulation, bulkers must install water ingress detection equipment. This equipment provides audible and visual alarms on the bridge when water levels are detected in cargo holds (at two levels) and other spaces forward of the first collision bulkhead.
