The SCANJET VOCON valve is an advanced pressure control solution developed in line with IMO MEPC.1/Circ. 680 guidelines to support more effective VOC management on board.
The system is operated via a control box in the cargo control room, with an optional control panel available for the wheelhouse. For added safety, the VOCON valve includes a built-in fail-safe function that maintains tank pressure and the inert gas (IG) blanket in the event of a power loss—without the need for manual intervention at the valve itself.
All VOC emissions are automatically recorded and logged within the system, making the data easy to display for third-party inspections or export for documentation and record-keeping.
A VOCON mast riser system can be used to reduce the blow-down effect commonly associated with standard pressure/vacuum valves, which can otherwise lead to tank pressure losses of 50% or more. By limiting this pressure loss, the system helps reduce VOC emissions to the atmosphere while also providing emission logging.
However, while a VOCON valve lowers the operating pressure, it may also increase VOC losses compared with using SCANJET high-velocity valves fitted with the dual-nozzle system, which effectively manages thermal venting during voyage.
For this reason, a VOCON mast riser system is generally not required when used alongside SCANJET dual-nozzle valves, but it is highly beneficial—and often necessary—when standard P/V valves are installed.
